Teen Prescription Drug Use

[Detoxer]

I am the director of a medical detox center in Florida. We regularly get young people who got addicted to prescription drugs when they were as young as 12. They got these drugs from their parents' medicine chest. Some went to parties where the kids brought a handful of prescription pills and tossed them in a big bowl. Then the kids would grab a handful and take them.

I have been going to various civic groups, churches and schools giving a talk on this and it has been very well received. Hopefully, the result of this talk will be more attention to keeping the drugs safe at home or disposing of them when they are no longer needed. Also, I hope the kids understand the possible criminal consequences from handling these drugs. They are treated no different than illegal drugs if you are caught with them in their possession.
